On 5th October 2024, the Nepali Society of Tasmania (NEST) proudly celebrated Nepal’s biggest festival, Dashain, with a vibrant community event – Changa Chet: Hobart Dashain Mela at Risdon Brook Park. The celebration brought together families and community members to honour tradition, foster unity, and enjoy a day full of joy and cultural pride.
The event featured kite flying (Changa Chet)—a beloved Dashain tradition—alongside fun games like Bingo and Matka Phor. Attendees were treated to lively cultural performances, including dance, singing, and stand-up comedy, creating a festive and inclusive atmosphere. A variety of food stalls offered delicious Nepali cuisine, adding to the festive spirit and giving everyone a taste of home. The event highlighted the importance of preserving cultural heritage while strengthening community bonds here in Tasmania.
Dashain Mela remains a key part of NEST’s cultural calendar, and we look forward to making it even bigger and better in the years to come.
