On 6th September 2024, the Nepali Society of Tasmania (NEST), in collaboration with the Hindu Society of Tasmania, proudly celebrated Haritalika Teej—one of the most significant festivals for Nepali women. The event took place at the Hindu Temple in Bridgewater, bringing together Nepali women from across Hobart to honour this vibrant and deeply spiritual tradition.
The celebration began with a communal Teej Pooja, led by the temple priest who offered prayers and blessings to all attending women. The sacred atmosphere was further enriched by the presence of visiting grandmothers from Nepal, who sang traditional Teej songs and played the madal, adding authenticity and emotional depth to the celebration.
Women dressed in beautiful red attire joined in singing, dancing, and sharing joy with one another. The celebration concluded with the sharing of Pooja-friendly food and drinks, reinforcing the communal and spiritual harmony of the event.
Through this celebration, NEST aimed not only to preserve a cherished cultural and religious tradition but also to pass it on to the younger generation, ensuring that the richness of Nepali heritage continues to thrive in Tasmania.
