International Student Information Session & Nepali High Tea – Welcoming New Arrivals

On 27th February 2025, the Nepali Society of Tasmania (NEST), in collaboration with UTAS, hosted a welcoming International Student Information Session for students of Nepali background. Held as a Nepali-style high tea, the event offered a warm and culturally familiar space for new international students to connect, learn, and feel supported.

The session featured engaging presentations on volunteering, job readiness, and community involvement. Attendees learned about programs such as International Student Ambassadorship, Chiya Guff Run, and various cultural and networking opportunities. Guest speakers included:

  • The Hobart City Council International Student Ambassador from Nepal, who shared how volunteering helped shape his career path.
  • NEST representatives who spoke about navigating the Tasmanian job market and building local connections.
  • Past UTAS graduates, who shared valuable experiences and insights for adjusting to life in Tasmania.

The event created a valuable platform for peer learning, cultural exchange, and social connection, while giving students the opportunity to enjoy traditional Nepali tea and snacks.

It was a memorable occasion that helped students feel welcomed and informed, strengthening the link between education, community, and cultural belonging.
