The Nepali Society of Tasmania (NEST) is proud to participate in the Myer City of Hobart Christmas Pageant 2024 on 23rd November. Having taken part since 2018, NEST continues to showcase Nepal’s rich cultural heritage to the wider Tasmanian community.
Our float featured iconic symbols from Kathmandu’s major festivals—intra Jatra and Machindranath Chariot—including the Good Demon (Lakhe), the white elephant (Pulukisi), the living Goddess (Kumari), the grand Machindranath Chariot, and a special addition of the King and Queen, reflecting Nepal’s royal history and deep cultural ties.
Members wore vibrant traditional attire representing various ethnic groups such as Gurung, Tharu, Newari, Chetri, Tamang, Sherpa, and Magar, bringing Nepal’s diversity to life with traditional music and dance. The Nepali Society of Northern Tasmania contributed traditional musical instruments to the parade, further highlighting the community’s involvement and support.
This event remains a fantastic opportunity for NEST to engage with Tasmania’s multicultural community and proudly share Nepali culture.
