On the auspicious occasion of Tihar, we celebrated the festival in its most traditional and authentic form at Pathasala School. The atmosphere came alive with the joyful songs and music of Deusi–Bhailo, performed using traditional Nepalese musical instruments such as the madal, along with the guitar. Our children enthusiastically joined in, singing together and cheerfully calling out “Deusi Re!”, filling the space with excitement and festive spirit.

The celebration was further enriched by lively dance performances by our teachers, which brought smiles and joy to everyone present. In addition, a meaningful presentation was delivered to help children understand the values, cultural significance, and essence of Tihar, highlighting the importance of gratitude, togetherness, importance of respect and prayers for crows, dogs, cows and celebration of brother and sisterhood.

Pathasala School class was beautifully decorated with candles, lights, flowers, and traditional Selroti, creating a vibrant and welcoming festive environment. These decorations truly captured the spirit and momentum of Tihar, and the children’s excitement was evident throughout the event.

We concluded the celebration by sharing tea and Selroti, a traditional Nepalese rice doughnut that holds special significance during Tihar in Nepal. This final gathering allowed everyone to come together, reflect on the celebration, and enjoy the warmth of community.

Overall, the Tihar celebration at Pathasala School was a heartfelt effort to preserve Nepalese traditions, educate our students about cultural values, and create meaningful festive memories, especially for children growing up away from their homeland.
